Starting as a Career Technical Education professional twenty-three years ago, I have been a CTE teacher, program manager, director and now proudly serve as superintendent. During this time, I have focused on serving students, staff, peers, and the community by building relationships and trust. Serving three school districts with very unique demographics, cultures, and communities, CRY-ROP has developed a wide array of services to ensure students and families across the 220 square mile region are provided with expanded opportunities. My vision is to empower individuals to reach their potential, by capitalizing on strengths and growing from challenges, thus creating a broad range of choices. My success has been defined by the capacity I have helped to build within individuals toward this vision. I believe in the power of life-long learning, and self-discovery that comes from access to opportunities. My life's work has been to lead high investment initiatives to ensure a broad range of choices for students. In order to lead change and achieve positive results for students, I believe there must be a shared vision, and alignment of resolve. Our educational system is changing, and CRY-ROP is on the leading edge of the change efforts. I understand that education in the information age is a complex challenge. There is no single recipe or protocol to guarantee success. Outside factors certainly influence outcomes, and experience helps, but the reality is that educating our next generation is complex- and takes the collective work of the entire community for sustained success. At CRY-ROP, we continue to gain momentum by engaging our entire community of educators, K-12 students, career seekers, business partners and parents.
As the CRY-ROP superintendent, my goals are:
- To provide visionary leadership and strategic planning to focus human and material resources towards the primary goal of outstanding quality career and technical education for students;
- To maintain productive board and staff relations with open communication;
- To be a highly visible educational leader; and
- To continue to develop community partnerships in support of student success, a strong workforce pipeline, and vibrant economy.
Currently I am serving on the State Board of Education (SBE) Career and College Indicator (CCI) workgroup tasked with identifying the CCI elements to be included in the new California Dashboard. This workgroup is comprised of a small number of educational professionals identified by California Department of Education (CDE) as experts in the elements of the CCI, and includes representatives from higher education, business, K-12 districts, and career education.
As Superintendent, I have been at the planning table with partner school districts in the development of their LCAP. Public hearings, parent advisory committees, and comment periods, have provided me with the unique opportunity to experience the LCAP process in three distinctly different school districts. The LCFF and the LCAP as well as the new systems of support and intervention represent major state policy changes. CRY-ROP's unique position and contribution to the LCAP development process, has provided a balance and perspective to ensure inclusive, comprehensive, collaborative conversations.
In addition to a professional clear teaching credential and administrative services credential, I earned a Liberal Studies/ Bilingual-Cross Cultural bachelor's degree from California State University San Bernardino, and a master's degree in Educational Administration at the University of Redlands, and received my doctor of education degree in Transformational Leadership at Brandman University.
